Patient Notification – Incidental Findings

Dear

We are writing to let you know that during your recent visit to one of our facilities, our team saw an abnormal finding in your lung(s). This unexpected finding is referred to as an “incidental finding” and requires further evaluation. It is important that you discuss this finding with your health care provider and receive follow up even if you are having no symptoms.

While these findings are often non-cancerous, additional imaging and/or follow up maybe required by a specialist to make that determination.  National statistics show that 70% percent of ER patients never have findings like this evaluated after leaving an ER facility.  At XXXXX we know that attention to small details can make all the difference when it comes to our patient’s health.  Lung cancer is rarely detected at a small size due to a lack of symptoms. Programs such as this allow us to be proactive in following small changes to find lung cancer in its earliest stage leading to lives saved.

If you indicated a primary care provider during your visit, these findings will be forwarded to them. Our experienced Lung Nodule Coordinators will reach out to assure your provider is aware.  If you do not have a primary care provider, please call our lung nodule coordinator (XXX) XXX-XXXX to assist you with arranging follow up.

We at XXXXXXX believe that screening and early detection are an integral part of making our communities healthier.

Sincerely,
Your Lung Cancer Screening/Nodule Team
